interactions, sharing injection equipment, and direct
transmission through pregnancy. However, there are still a few
situations that may cause us to be infected by HIV, like the one
seen in this movie: severe trauma. Even as physicians, I feel
that we may have sufficient knowledge about the disease, it is
still extremely easy for us to assume that the patient got the
disease through unsafe sexual activities if not otherwise
specified.

This movie serves as a constant reminder that doctors should
always treat patients without discrimination regardless of
appearance, gender, sexuality, race or background. I once read
a book about factors that influence a doctor’s judgements.
Conducted research showed that doctors are often not aware of
how they make decisions and that we are more often guided by
our instincts and habits rather than logics. The book described
an example as follows: when a sees a familiar sloppy and
mal-nutritious male patient brought to the emergency
department, doctors tend to assume that he is once again
brought in due to alcohol overdose. This sometimes leads to
misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis. In general, I feel that it
would never be wrong if we could sit down and spend a little
bit of our time to listen to our patients patiently. Since we have
