that restrained his physical activity, with the help of the
technology, he was able to communicate with others and move
(in a wheelchair). As I was watching the movie, I couldn’t help
but thinking of how great his doctor was. People used to put
emphasis on how much longevity we humans could be.
However, the advance of medical technique and technology
nowadays, after we really extended our life enough, we
focused more on the functional status of patients in their late
years, which we called HALE(healthy life expectancy). If
Hawking were born in maybe 50 years from now, I think the
medical technique then will have prevented him from confining
to the wheelchair.

I think the most important part of the movie is the
humanity, of course. There’s a saying goes “久病無孝子
Chronic illness made no filial children”. I reckoned this doesn’t
only describe the sibling of the patient, but also people around
him or the one who took care of him. A patient who got nearly
0 score in his ADL, he needed full-time, total-devotion care.
Unsurprisingly, his first marriage broke up. But I got emotional
at the end of the story, Hawking left his second wife and he
went back with his wife, and we could say their love still
conquered the hardship.

The theory of everything, I think the answer is hope. Hope
was the key to lead them and guide them through the hard time
