Some would say that it gives us a sneak peek at the problems in
Indian society, however, I see it as a story about ‘love’.
Although Aruvi stayed strong throughout her life, she started to
break down when she began to experience more severe
symptoms of HIV that gradually led her closer to death. Deep
down, the misunderstanding between her family left a deep
scar inside of her. She wanted to be loved, understood and
taken care of. I was emotional when she ran away from her
shelter and stumbled to her crappy house on the mountains,
weak and alone. Since I have a very deep bond with my family,
I can relate how important it is to be accepted and loved by
people that you genuinely care for. In a traditional Asian
household, we often give too much attention to how other
people see us. Oftentimes, we only feel loved when we behave
well and meet the standards of the society. On the other hand,
we feel lost and abandoned when are ‘different’. However, I
feel that we should learn to love unconditionally, regardless of
the flaws or imperfections.It is one of the lesson that I will
continuously work on throughout my life.
