sharing the darkness. Through this film, we should consider
why a patient asks for euthanasia to finish the torturing pain.
Find out the true reasons why he or she wants to die, not
simply the physical pain but also the total pain. The attitude of
dealing with suffering, trying to live by nature, not escape
death from living, it is the worthiest aspect of human nature.
From a social perspective, palliative care has developed
from the 1990s in Taiwan, but most people sign a Do Not
Rescue consent form when their families are seriously ill and
unclear, instead of signing their wishes when they are
conscious. This shows that most people do not have the
perspective of "patient autonomy", and that family member
will be under great pressure and suffering from making
decisions on life and death choices for their families. Family
members involved in the patient's terminal care process are
more tolerant of the patient's death than the others who have
not participated, and they are more able to overcome sorrow
and experience bereavement because they have the opportunity
to do what they could do without regrets. It would be too late to
do more meaningful things when dying, to show love, thanks,
apologies, and goodbyes to their families. If we ignore the
significance of the process to family members and patients, we
will suffer, be anxious to end life early and lose the opportunity
to experience life education.
