The ICT kit was shown to be a reliable test for bedside

diagnosis of acute EV71 infection in children in the

present study. This test can fill the gap between the

clinical diagnosis that can’t confirm EV71 infection

and the laboratory diagnosis that is laborious and

time-consuming. Clinically, it has been difficult to

distinguish EV71 from other enteroviral infections.

However, EV71, rather than coxsackievirusA group, is

the leading cause of severe and fatal cases in

susceptible children. It is beneficial to diagnose

acute EV71 infection earlier for the clinical

management and public health.
