The cumulative sensitivity and specificity of ICT
Of the 156 patients enrolled, 91 (58%), 64 (41%) and 72
(46%) were positive to the ICT kit, viral culture and
RTPCR, respectively. The laboratory-confirmed infection
with either positive EV71 culture or RTPCR was used as
the diagnostic standard. The sensitivity and
specificity of ICT kit were 84% and 77% (Figure 2). In
the study, virus culture and RTPCR gave a relatively
lower sensitivity but higher specificity. The patient
age didn’t affect the performance of ICT, virus
culture and RTPCR. However, a low sensitivity of ICT
kit was noted before the second day of disease onset
(Figure 2).In the instruction of the ICT kit, not only
whole blood but the serum and plasma are acceptable for
running the test. We compared the results of ICT kit
from whole blood and plasma samples in the same
patients, and 100% compatibility was noted.
