Physical therapy or physiotherapy (often abbreviated as PT) is a health care profession concerned with helping patients with impairments and disabilities. Its main goals are the promotion of mobility, functional ability, and to improve the quality of life for the needed patients. These are carried out by physical therapists or physiotherapists. In some countries and areas, the system of having physiotherapy assistants in treating patients still exists. In Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, we only employ board certified physical therapists (PTs).

PTs are healthcare professionals who treat individuals of all ages, from newborns all the way to the very old, for patients who have health-related issues, illnesses, or injuries that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities.Physical therapy management commonly includes the application of specific exercises, manual therapy, education, manipulation and other interventions such as physical modalities. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs. This is done by developing fitness programs for healthier and more active lifestyles, providing services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. This includes providing services in conditions where movements and functions are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors.

In our department, physical therapy treatment areas in all three medical branches are equipped with latest modality machines. Our PTs are experienced in treating patients from all age groups. Adequate lighting is provided to ensure a safe treatment environment for our patients and for fall prevention.
