Cardiac rehabilitation is a professionally supervised training program to assist patients recover from cardiac attacks, surgeries, and percutaneous coronary interventions such as angioplasty and stenting. The ultimate goal for cardiac rehabilitation is help patients with heart problems to increase their physical fitness, reduce cardiac symptoms, and to improve health and reduce the occurrence of future heart attacks. The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has established a cardiac rehabilitation centerat the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Linkou Branch. It is situated at the seventh floor of the medical building. The total space of the center is approximately 133 square meters. We have a total of 2 board certified physiatrists and 3 full time physical therapists offering daily services to the needed patients.

Patients with the following diagnoses may benefit from cardiac rehabilitation:

  • Patients who have received coronary artery bypass surgery.
  • Patients with heart failure, but is stable in terms medical condition.
  • Patients who have received percutaneous coronary intervention procedures.
  • Patients who have suffered from acute myocardial infarction.
  • Patients who have received valvular heart surgery.
  • Patients who have received heart transplantation surgery

For Taiwanese citizens, the cost of receiving cardiac rehabilitation training is paid by the National Health Insurance. Each training session is about 45 minutes.For foreigners and patients who are not covered by the National Health Insurance, they can still receive cardiac rehabilitation training in our center using the self-paid method. The self-paid cost forreceiving cardiac rehabilitation training is 1,200 Taiwan Dollars (NTD) per session.

Bicycle or treadmill is used during cardiac rehabilitation training. During training, every patient is closely monitored for crucial data such as oxygen consumption, heart rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure. Our physical therapists stand right beside the patients during the training process to guard them from possible falls. Training will be halted immediately once patients show signs of fatigue and unstable vital signs. Our center is also equipped with the latest lifesavingfacilities. As a result, it is our center’s utmost responsibility to provide our patients with a safe environment to receive cardiac rehabilitation training.If you meet the above diagnostic criteria, please visit Dr Huang Shu-Chun and Dr Tsai Wei-Lun in our rehabilitation out-patient clinic for further evaluations and arrangement for cardiac rehabilitation training sessions.
