International Affairs
After Dr. Tang, Simon FT completed his position as the director of our department, he was later elected as the president of Taiwan Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2005. During his six years serving as the president, he has done a great job in promoting the international image of our department and Taiwan’s rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Tang has many international titles at the present day:
- Vice president, International Society for Restorative Neurology.
- Executive member, International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM).
- Immediate past vice president, ISPRM.
- Honorary president, Taiwan Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
- President of International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), Taiwan (Chinese Taipei).
- President of Asia-Oceanian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (AOSPRM).
It is not easy to earn these prestigious positions as no physiatrists in the history of Taiwan’s rehabilitation medicine can be so well respected and recognized by the physiatrists both domestically and around the globe.
The other attending physician that also serves to have important roles in international organizations is Dr. Chen, Carl PC. Presently, Dr. Chen is the chairman of the research committee in AOSPRM. Carl also serves as the National Representative of Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) in ISPRM. Together with Dr. Tang, Carl has represented Taiwan in attending many international medical conferences and events. The latest event that Carl attended was the annual American Society of Rehabilitation Medicine in Atlanta USA in November of 2012. In that meeting, Carl presented a speech in front of about 40 representatives from different countries in the aim to win the bid for Taiwan to host the 2016 ISPRM conference.
