Achievements and Awards
The department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has won many outstanding awards during the past several years. Our department also has prestigious achievements such as gaining patents for the insoles we have designed and plays major roles in international medical societies. Here are some of the achievements and awards that our department has won:
Professor Wong, Alice May-Kuen (黃美涓)
Professor Wong has devoted her entire medical career in providing the best service to her patients. Her devotion has touched the hearts of many patients and their family members. Professor Wong was awarded the "Taiwan Medical Role Model" award in 2010 by the president of the Republic of China (ROC).

Professor Tang, Simon FT (鄧復旦)
Professor Tang is a well-known for his studies on gait analysis, prosthesis, and orthosis. Professor Tang has published many outstanding articles on these topics. Over the years, he has designed my prosthesis, orthosis and insoles for the needed patients, and was awarded many patents by the ROC government.
Professor Tang's intelligent insole design for the treatment of hallux valgus with over-riding second toe was awarded a patent from the ROC government.
Professor Tang's innovative carbon fiber plate insole design for partial foot amputation patients was awarded a patent from the ROC government.
Professor Tsai, Wen-Chung (蔡文鐘) and Associate Professor Chen, Carl PC (陳柏旭)
Both professor Tsai and associate professor Chen have won the Lien I-Nan foundation outstanding research award. This is the most prestigious research award that a physiatrist can receive in Taiwan. It is our great honor as two doctors from the same department can win this prestigious award.
Associate Professor Chen, Carl PC (陳柏旭)
In 2011, Carl was awarded the outstanding service award by superintendent Wang. In order to win this award, a physician needs to have obtained numerous letters written by the patients to the superintendent’s office saying that they have received satisfying medical services from the physician.
Dr. Chen, Carl was awarded the outstanding service award in year 2011.
Associate Professor Chen, Carl PC (陳柏旭) and Assistant Professor Pei, Yu-Cheng (裴育晟)
Both Carl and Yu-Cheng are experts in Evidence Based Practice. They teach Evidence Based Practice regularly in Chang Gung University graduate school. Together, they have won many Evidence Based Practice competitions in the hospital and in the entire country.
Carl and Yu-Cheng are both awarded the title of 'physician scientist" in the hospital. A physician must have successfully obtained a PhD degree and has research grants (at least National Science Council level) in order to be awarded this honorary title. Besides clinical work, a physician scientist must devote a certain amount of time to conduct research and publish articles.
Assistant Professor Pei, Yu-Cheng (裴育晟)
Yu-Cheng graduated from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, USA. He is an expert in the field of neuro-rehabilitation and has published numerous high impact factor papers in well-known neuroscience journals. As a result, Yu-Cheng was awarded the outstanding Chang Gung University Alumni Award in 2010.
Dr. Pei, Yu-Cheng was awarded the outstanding Chang Gung University Alumni Award in 2010.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is regarded as one of the best centers for early intervention in Taiwan. We received an outstanding award for early intervention treatment in 2012.
Dr. Chen Carl, who is now the director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Taipei Branch, received an outstanding award for early intervention treatment on behalf of the department from a Taipei City government health officer in 2012.
