The department of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery of Chang-Gung memorial hospital, Linkao branch is currently divided into five subspecialties including otology, rhinology, laryngology, head and neck surgery and pediatric otolaryngology. The skull base surgery, head-neck surgery, sleep medicine, endoscopic sinus surgery and cochlear implantation surgery contribute to Taiwan ENT medicine, which even could be the representitive of Taiwan ENT medicine and competitive around the world. The achievement and excellent service of our doctors have won recognition in society. Dr. Li Da-Jen and Dr. Liao Jun-Da won the award of best-100 doctors ranked by Business Week in 2009.
Basic research in nasopharyngeal and oral cancer of our department is well-known in the world. Nevertheless more and more doctors in our department are studying for Ph-D or Master degrees, expecting to make our research more out-standing. At least more than 10 SCI articles each year are published and several senior attending physicians of our department were invited for giving speech in international conference or being visiting professor in worldwide prestigious universities.
Chief Liao Jun-Da and associated head and neck tumor team have made significant achievements on treatments for oral, oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer. The tumor team dose not only focus on the research but cooperates with other groups in cancer center of our hospital to perform oral cancer screening or to give education to population. In this way, treatment of the head and neck cancer will be carried out from the prevention to its treatment thoroughly.
Under the integration and leadership by Chief Li Hsueh-Yu, our team of surgical intervention for obstructive sleep apnea is the most completed one in Taiwan. By this great advantage, our team not only provides the best service for patients but also leads Chang-Gung memoriral hospital/Taiwan into international society of sleep medicine.
The basic research of rhinology has reached considerable advancement under the leadership of Chief Huang Chi-Zhe. Complications of difficult sinus surgery have been avoided or greatly decreased by the means of navigation assisted endoscopic sinus surgery. In the meanwhile, physicians go abroad to study the most innovative surgical skills and the latest knowledge in Australia, leading us to keep the pace with competitors around the world.
By the efforts of Chief Wu Zhe-Min, over 850 cases of cochlear implantations have been done since Prof. Huang Jun-Sheng operated the first case of cochlear implantations in 1985. The achievements in cochlear implantations made us to be with the most quantity and the best quality in Taiwan.
