The Craniofacial Center at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital consists of a team of dedicated surgeons, craniofacial dentists, speech-language pathologists & therapists, psychologists and social workers. We provide professional medical and surgical care to patients afflicted by a broad spectrum of craniofacial pathologies. Our craniofacial center is possibly the busiest in the world. Since 1976, we have treated over 30,000 patients with cleft lip and palate and over one thousand patients with congenital craniofacial deformities. Our team has been devoted to providing patient-oriented medical care using a multidisciplinary approach. The strong research orientation of the Center allows us to provide state-of-the-art treatments.
The Craniofacial Center of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital was established in 1978 and is located in the Taoyuan Medical Center of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan, Taiwan. An average of 800 new patients with cranio-maxillo-facial deformities visit the center each year, possibly unrivalled anywhere in the world in its volume and scope of work. The wide range of craniofacial conditions seen at the Center includes orofacial clefts, secondary cleft deformities, aesthetic maxillofacial problems, and complex craniofacial deformities.
The Center offers a comprehensive spectrum of clinical expertise from the departments of plastic surgery, orthodontics, speech pathology, child psychology, medical documentation, and social work. Many of its members are highly respected leaders in cleft, maxillofacial and craniofacial surgery. Patients have easy access to pertinent knowledge about their treatments before and after the surgery. The center is an example of a center of excellence in Chang Gung Health Care System and worldwide.
The Center works very closely with the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that serves needy patients. Every year the center organizes and undertakes at least six volunteer humanitarian missions of cleft surgery to neighboring countries and helps them develop state-of-art standards for their future practice.
At any one time, there are several international visitors and fellows in the Center, contributing to a lively exchange of ideas and information.
The members of the Center actively participate in workshops and congresses, and have frequently been invited as visiting professors to many similar centers worldwide. Its frequent contributions in international publications attest to the high quality of clinical and research work undertaken at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.
