The ethical languages enlisted to evaluate an innovative
technology go beyond the utilitarian analysis costs and benefits.
For example, the principles of biomedical ethics and the laws
of armed conflict play a central role in judgments made about
whether healthcare industry or the military should adopt a
propose device or procedure.

There is a great deal of work ahead if we, humanity as a
whole, are to successfully navigate the promise and perils of
emerging technologies. As an example, even if it became
possible to determine severity via genetic analysis, there can be
only surrogate basis for treatment comparison. Will this be
strong enough foundation to decide whether to genetically
manipulate or even abort a fetus with a spectrum condition?
Making choices for unborn children weighs heavy on one’s
conscience.

The differing ethical languages underscore different
considerations, each of which will need to be factored into
decision regarding whether to embrace, regulate, or reject the
new technology.
