Baby at One Month

An egg is swept into the fallopian tube after ovulation; if a sperm makes its way from the vagina through the uterus to the egg within 24 hours, conception is likely to occur. By the end of the first month, the embryo is about 1/10 of an inch long. The heart, no larger than a poppy seed, has begun beating.
