Prevention for suicide by Smart HealthCare in Medical Center

Introduction

• In 2006, the Ministry of Health and Welfare implemented the suicide prevention referral system (https://sps.mohw.gov.tw/Account/IndexInform). In 2016, Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital set up a suicide prevention center, with a coordinator to follow up suicide cases, and a data bank for suicide prevention was established. In 2023, the psychiatric department compiled varying structured electronic medical records to set up the electronic suicide prevention data bank. The data bank affirmed the quality of care for patients with suicidal attempt and assisted in treatment, referral, and follow-up of these patients. SAS-BI (Big data intelligence) & auto ML(machine learning) was used to create a smart panel, with the following features:

1. The first design in Taiwan to use the suicide prevention referral system of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to create structured electronic medical records in Kaohsiung Chang Gung memorial hospital.
2. Integration of suicide data using structured electronic medical records.
3. Visualization of data, table, graph and further analysis for patients’ tracking.

Outcome

1. Promotion for Medical Benefits:
   4,685 cases of suicide prevention referral from 2010 to June 2023 were compiled through the suicide prevention referral system of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The data bank for suicide prevention was set up to assist the coordinator in following the cases. Clinical data was inputted into SAS BI and ML software for visualization of the data, which showed the results of the cases from the past 13.5 years and follow-up cases in the recent 3 years.
2. The results of telephone tracking showed follow-up of 640 cases (61%), loss of follow-up of 324 cases (31%), death of 70 cases (6%), and refusal of follow-up of 17 cases (2%). New follow-up cases are added monthly for further follow-up and monitoring.
