Dr. Alice Yu, Pioneer in Immunotherapy for
Neuroblastoma, to Receive Pediatric Oncology Award

Alice Yu, MD, PhD, of the University of
California San Diego School of Medicine, will
receive the 2020 Pediatric Oncology Award. The
award, first presented in 2002, recognizes a
pediatric oncologist who has demonstrated
outstanding leadership or achievement in the field.

With a career in medicine now spanning over 40 years, Dr. Yu leads the Yu
Lab in the Department of Pediatrics at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego,
where her work led to the development of the first successful immunotherapy
targeting a nonprotein antigen. She also guides neuroblastoma research and
therapeutics as part of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Neuroblastoma
Steering Committee.
In an interview with ASCO Daily News, Dr. Yu shared that, when she was in
medical school, she did not initially want to go into pediatric oncology.
