About us
Aim:
We are committed to the effective coordination with surgical operations, to the comfort and safety of anesthesia, and to the continuous improvement of the quality of anesthesia, for the benefit of the health of the people.
Our Service:
Over the past 25 years, more than 1.1 million cases of anesthesia have been conducted in our department. Meanwhile we have trained more than 60 specialist doctors and 500 nurse anesthetists, who are now working in various hospitals across the country to provide high-quality anesthesia services.
In addition to the largest amount of anesthesia services, we have many other “first-one” records in Taiwan. We are the first one to have an independent department for anesthesia, to set up and carry out monitoring standards, to introduce advanced anesthesia equipments, to establish a cardiopulmonary rescue team for in-hospital emergencies, to provide anesthesia for liver transplantation.
Our department, which has 46 specialist doctors, is subdivided according to different geographical locations: Linkou, Children's hospital, Taipei, and Keelung. The specialist doctors of Linkou are further categorized into divisions according to their sub-specialties: general anesthesia, cardiovascular-thoracic anesthesia, neurosurgical anesthesia and pain management. The establishment of post-anesthesia recovery room and postoperative pain service is a response to ever increasing complexities of the surgical and medical conditions of patients. The chiefs and directors of our department are appointed each term for three years. With outstanding performance, they may be re-appointed once more.
Our teaching and research:
In order to continuously strengthen the quality of teaching and services, every year we send attending physicians to study abroad to acquire the latest medical knowledge and technology, which in turn increases the opportunities for international academic exchanges. In order to nurture the research talents, we encourage our physicians to pursue their PhD degrees at home and abroad. Since 1995, with the establishment of Anesthesia Research Laboratory, resources have been integrated to be shared among the aspiring physicians. The scope of our research covers the field of anesthesia and pain medicine. Our colleagues also cooperate with experts and scholars of related fields to upgrade the quality of medical care. With the increasing number of grants from the National Science Council and our hospital, our fruits of research have been published more and more in high-impact journals.
Since July 2000, our residency training programs has been extended to five years: with four years for clinical anesthesia, then an additional year for critical care medicine. Having completed the training, our resident doctors are eligible for the specialist examinations of anesthesia and critical care medicine.
Outlook:
We will devote ourselves to develop a full range of peri-operative medicine, including preoperative visits, intra-operative monitoring, post-operative recovery, post-operative pain, and post-operative intensive care. We will also embrace the trend of globalized communication and networking to foster the interdisciplinary cooperation. We as a department will uphold the the spirit of Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital to provide anesthesia services with ever-improving comfort, safety, and quality.
