About a quarter of Taiwan’s cancer patients are treated in Chang Gung medical institutions. Each year, Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, the largest cancer hospital, offers state-of-the-art multidisciplinary treatment to more than 8,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients, whoever they are.
As modern cancer treatment reflects cross-disciplinary collaboration, specialists from different disciplines are required to team up to diagnose and make treatment plans. In 1990, Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital set up an office in preparation for a cancer center, which was intended to integrate comprehensive cancer services of the hospital. After years of hard work and the efforts by president Chen Ming-fu, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Cancer Center was founded in January 2004. Following three years of construction as well as integration of software and hardware, Taiwan’s first cancer center in a comprehensive medical center came into existence and officially went into operation in early 2007.
Our cancer center is designed to fulfill patient-oriented purpose. In order to provide the best treatment and care, it is well equipped with a wide range of instruments for diagnosis and therapy for cancer patients. In our spacious, naturally lit outpatient clinic area, patients can conveniently visit different oncology specialists in the same day. Case managers, nutritionists, psychiatrists, and volunteers are also available to offer holistic health care. Patients are cared and treated in a welcoming and compassionate atmosphere and know they are not alone in this fight against cancer.
The cancer center building is home to the medical oncology wards, bone marrow transplantation wards, and the molecular diagnosis laboratory. There are also privacy-preserving rooms for outpatient chemotherapy, where non-admitted patients can receive comfortable and safe infusion treatment. To reduce the risk of infection caused by the decreased level of white cells after chemotherapy, there are isolation wards for infection-prone patients. In addition, the department of Radiation Oncology is on the basement level to provide the most advanced radiation treatments.
To bring out the best treatment results possible, our center set up teams specialized in different cancers. On the teams are experts in medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, medical image, and pathology. The teams are intended to provide updated guidance for members to create the best treatment plan for patients. Each team is assessed comprehensively to live up to the hospital’s devotion to professionalism and perfection. Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Cancer Center is devoted to providing cancer patients with the best treatment and care. Over the years, our cancer center has kept upgrading its software and hardware facilities and enhanced staff training. In 2014, the center will collaborate with the newly founded proton therapy center to bring Taiwan’s expertise and technology of cancer treatment to the world’s leading position.
