Application Requirements

To apply for an observership or fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taoyuan Branch), please carefully follow the steps below. Ensure that all required documents are submitted at least 3 months before your intended training start date.

Training Guidelines

Upon arrival, please report to your department secretary to collect your trainee ID badge and access card. A NT$500 deposit is required. The deposit will be refunded upon return of the items at the end of your training.

If you have applied for accommodation, the secretary will guide you to the dormitory. For dorm-related questions, contact the dorm supervisor (Ext. 3900, Mobile: 0975-368-349). The room key must be returned before moving out.

After completing administrative procedures, please contact your supervising physician to confirm your training schedule and objectives.

Training Evaluations:

Training ≤ 3 months: Submit a learning assessment before completion.
Training > 3 months: Assessments must be conducted every 3 months.

Certificate of Completion: Issued only if all evaluations are completed and the trainee performs satisfactorily during the program. Please contact your department secretary to apply.

Health Screening Requirements

All applicants must provide a health screening report issued within 3 to 6 months, including:

If antibodies are not present, you must submit proof of vaccination or a certificate of contraindication issued by a regional hospital or higher, recognized by the Ministry of Labor.

You may choose to complete the screening at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (self-paid) at least 10 days before your training start date.

During periods of infectious disease outbreaks, additional vaccination records or screening reports may be required based on the hospital or national policy.

What happens if I fail to complete the training?

In case of incomplete training, a certificate will not be issued.

Can I extend my training period?

How long does the training program last?

The duration of the program varies, but most observerships and fellowships range from 3 months to 1 year.

Is there a fee for the training program?

Fees may apply depending on the type of program. Please contact the administration for details.

Can I get the deposit back if I lose my ID badge?

No. The deposit is only refunded if both the trainee badge and access card are returned.

Who should I contact if my dorm key is lost?

Please notify the dorm supervisor immediately (Ext. 3900 / Mobile: 0975-368-349). You will also be required to pay for key replacement; please confirm details with the dorm supervisor.

Can I apply for a certificate without submitting the assessment?

No. All required evaluations must be completed to receive a certificate.

Can I extend my training period after arrival?

Please discuss with your supervising physician and notify your department secretary at least 2 months in advance. This allows sufficient time for internal processing and reporting to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Can I apply less than 3 months in advance?

No. All materials must be submitted at least 3 months before your intended training start date to allow sufficient processing time.

Will the hospital provide accommodation?

Accommodation is available but at your own expense. If needed, please indicate this in your application. In case no hospital lodging is available, you will be informed in advance so that you may arrange external accommodation on your own.

Will a visa be arranged by the hospital?

No, applicants must apply for the appropriate visa themselves. However, we will assist with official reporting to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Will I receive a stipend during my training?

No. This is an unpaid observership program. However, eligible long-term trainees (≥1 year) may apply for a scholarship.

How do I apply for the scholarship?

The Chang Gung scholarship is available for foreign clinical trainees who plan to stay one year or longer. The application must be submitted by your supervising physician using the official evaluation form (Annex 6), along with the following:

  • Letter of recommendation from your institution
  • Personal statement
  • Clinical training and research plan (max. 1,000 words)
  • At least one published SCI-indexed article
  • Signed agreement and supervisor’s endorsement letter

What are the obligations for scholarship recipients?

Recipients must:

  • Submit a training report every 6 months. Excellent submissions may be published in CGMH Journal.
  • Submit an SCI article as first author before program completion. If accepted, provide the acceptance letter and register the article with the hospital system to be eligible for publication reward.
  • Submit a final evaluation form with the assistance of the department secretary.

What happens if I fail to submit progress reports on time?

Reports must be submitted within the specified schedule. Late submissions will not be accepted, and your scholarship will be terminated immediately if obligations are not fulfilled.

Will I be allowed to perform hands-on procedures?

This is an observership-only program. No hands-on practice or direct patient care is allowed.
