what is textual method all about???

i just wanna know more about textual method...everything about it and some examples....if there are

In what context does this method occur ? What problems or statistical procedures is it associated with ?

Textual analysis is used in religious research as an alternative to analyzing other historical records to clarify certain religious writings. Also, there are statistical procedures used in code breaking and to analyze written material for originality. Some NIH researchers got into trouble, when they used software designed to check if certain scientific papers had too much in common, to accuse a well known author of borrowing too much from a previous book on the same subject.
