Which of the following random variables may be classified as continuous?
1.the time it takes a student to complete an exam.

2. The number of cars in the Dupont parking lot between 12:50 and 3:30 PM on February 3, 2001.

3. The distance traveled by a school bus each day.

4.The number of people takingfinal exams for Spring Semester 2001.

Time and distance would be considered continuous variables. Anytime the word "number" or "count" is used that's an indication of a discrete variable. In other words, the value is an integer and it doesn't make sense to have a value between two integers. e.g. 1.5 cars or 1.5 people - these values don't make sense. However, time and distance is continuous on a number line.
