Collaborative Filtering
Message posted by Robert Niles (via 204.48.23.147) on March 8, 2001 at 6:46 PM (ET)

I'm trying to learn more about collaborative filtering systems on the web (e.g. Amazon.com's book recommendations.)

I doubt that I will try to write one of these things myself, but I would like at least a basic understanding of the math behind them. Has anyone seen some research on the formulas used to drive a collaborative filtering engine? (I suspect it is mostly Pearson's, but would love to get a little more detail.)

Thanks in advance,
Robert
