What is the mode?
Message posted by Parent on February 13, 2001 at 12:00 AM (ET)

I'm doing homework with my 9yr old and for the life of me I cannot figure out the mode, given a range of values, (10,20,30,40,50,90,100,120,120,130)). Can anyone define mode and how to figure it out?

The mode is the most frequently occurring number in
your set of observations. It's possible to have more than
one mode in a dataset. In your example, I didn't see any
values occurring more than once. But I might have
missed it.

You can find it real quickly by listing your numbers from high to low (or from low to high) and looking for the number(s) that repeat the most. Think of "mode" as "most."
