Skewness?
Message posted by Rachael on November 27, 2000 at 12:00 AM (ET)

In a completed analysis of 44 women softball players (strength test)...I have a mean, median, and mode of 105 lbs. So WHY did I get a skewness of 0.49? Shouldn't it be zero?? Are there 'units' for skewness other than positive/negative? This was done on excel. THANKS! : )

The data would have to be perfectly symmetrical to get zero. However, for a mean of 105 and the variation you must have had, 0.49 is darn small (close to zero) and probably supports the symmetry of your data.
