Design Margin Analysis
Message posted by Mike Kowalczyk on November 14, 2000 at 12:00 AM (ET)

Hello,

My company is trying to do design margin analysis on key characteristics of the products we build. I have not been able to find any books on the subject. (I hope I'm calling it by the correct name.) Essentially, we ary trying to look at the distributions of measurements on our key characteristics and their related spec. limits. Then we want to look at the key characteristics as a whole to determine how they contribute the overall reliability of the products. We currently have situations where the measurements of two key characteristics can be within the specs, but failures occur due to the combined effect of both key characteristics. Does anyone have any suggestions about where I may be able to look for additional information on this subject?

Thanks.

Mike Kowalczyk

Look at response surface analysis in some statistical analysis for chemical engineers type of book. Look for interaction effects in an analysis of variance - ANOVA - type of book.
