Automated calculation for margin of error
Message posted by Jim on October 20, 2000 at 12:00 AM (ET)

I have found the answer to a question I raised here a few days ago and I include the web site (http://www.circum.com/ss_e.htm) for those who may find it useful.

The question answered there is: what is the margin of error given the confidence level, the sample size, the population, and the resulting percentage of affirmative replies. You may insert the appropriate figures and the result is calculated for you.

It also does the reverse: calculates the needed sample size to attain the desired margin of error.

Please note that the URL for this tool has changed http://circum.com/ss_e.shtml

Also, the same site now offers a tool to compute design effects attributable to non proportional stratified sampling. Check it out at http://www.circum.com/cgi/plan.cgi?lang=an
