How do I calculated a pooled standard deviation? I have mean weights for women according to three categories of calorie intake. Is this valid?

It depends on the purpose of your study. Can you provide more datail as to what you are trying to accomplish.

The study following a group of exercisers. Only one group. No two groups. I would like to some simple statistics. I look at standard deviation but want one standard deviation to describe data.
