confidence interval for median estimate?
Message posted by Thomas Raffill on February 6, 2000 at 12:00 AM (ET)

We all know there are standard
formulas for confidence intervals
on an estimate of the mean
from the sample mean. But does
anyone know how to get a
confidence interval on an
estimate of the median from
the sample median?

Thanks,

Tom

I don't have the complete reference but the answer is in: Mosteller and Rourke, Ch 14 "Order statistics: Distribution of Probabilities: Confidence Limits, Tolerance limits." This reference is given on page 335 of Glantz, Sa. Primer of bio-statistics. 3rd ed. McGraw-Hill, 1992.
