r2
Message posted by Jerry on January 26, 2000 at 12:00 AM (ET)

I am having trouble interepting this paragraph...Parents influence did not decrease pregnancy chance (r2[squared] = .939)
and parental marital status did not decrease risk either
(r2 = .866).
What does r2 mean? How is it calculated?

r2 is the coefficient of determination.
It means that how many percentage of one variable can be explained by the other variable.
It is the square value of coefficient of correlation.
