Chi Square Interpretation & Writing

Need help interpreting chi square results and suggestions on how to report findings. Thanks!!

There various forms of the chi-square. Please give more information regarding your design, statistical test used, and result of the test.

how do you interpret results:
for example, i ran a chi-square test on the variables: retail sales (dep) and pop (indep) and the result was yes, there is a relationship. and gamma is weak to moderate. in words, it means that when pop increase, sales increase, too. or is it sales increse, pop decrease. chi-square measures the effects the dependent has on the independent variable. right or wrong
