how much does word processing program reduce the writing work?

I feel it would depend on how technical the writing (formulas, grpahics, tables, etc,) and the proficiency of the user with the software. I caanot imagine the extra hours I would have expended writing by dissertation without a word processor.

I and many others would not be able to do our own typing without a wordprocessor. We make too many mistakes to use and ordinaly typewriter.
