What does FGD mean?
Message posted by Bal on November 16, 1999 at 12:00 AM (ET)

I seem to have encountered this term in my readings. It seems to be a kind of test. What is it?

PGP means pretty good privacy. I am guessing that FGD means fairly good deal ?

FGD stands for Flue Gas Desulphurisation. It is the removal of the sulphur oxide and NOx from the flue gas of a thermal or gas poaer operated power station. The process is basically very simple. The smoke and gas that is exhausted from the power station is diverted into a large enclosed tank. The taken is filled with usually a limestone slurry, large pumps recirculate the slurry up and through sprays that douse the smoke. The sulphur and other gases are attached to the lime slurry and drops down into the tank. The gas that is released is then free of the sulphur that is associated with Acid Rain. Utility plants in USA, Europe, Korea Japan and Thailand have been installed with FGD units.
