Small Sample Formula

Does any one know what is a
small sample formula and where can I find ut how to compute it
Is a return of 230 questionniares a good sample size for 1000 mailouts?

Small sample formulii use the correction factor square root of (N-n/N-1) and are generally used when n is greater than .05*N or possibly .1*N. Certaninly, when n is bigger than that you have to use the correction factor.

The percentage returned from a mailout is not really a sampling problem. If the 1000 is a true random sample you have a lot of proving to do that the returned questionnirs are still a 'random' sample.
