Are my findings random?
Message posted by Max Dalrymple on October 12, 1999 at 12:00 AM (ET)

I looked at data on the 42 presidents and compared it with a random sample of the same size. Can I use chi square to determine if my findings are random? For ex:
Pres =42 varA= 8 varB= 3
Others=42 varA= 1 varB= 0
Should I use a larger random sample of famous people from the same period for comparison?

You can use chi-squared if you have reason to believe that the two lines are independent.
