Coding for discriminant analysis
Message posted by Shaun (via 193.132.229.110) on January 7, 2002 at 11:25 AM (ET)

Hi

When coding agreement scores intended for discriminant analysis, to create Fishers Classification Function Coefficients, which is the most appropriate to code the results and why?

Method 1
Agree=1 and Disagree=0

Method 2
Agree=1 and Disagree=-1

The statements are lifestyle statements such as 'I'm ambitious'.

Any advice on this matter is most welcome.

thanks.

When you have just two values, I do not think it matters. But I would have to do a search on the web or look at a social science statistics book for a fuller answer.
