The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery,
Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital
The Department of Orthpaedic Surgery in Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital is the most prestige team in Taiwan's orthopaedic profession. A total of 42 full-time faculties work together in three campuses in the Taipei-Taoyuan metropolitan. The Department is divided into divisions of spine, joint reconstruction, sports (hand surgery), and trauma (pediatric). We perform about 1,000 major operations in a month and around 11,000 major surgeries in a year. (the largest medical center in Taiwan) As one of the leading groups, we have the strongest panels specialized from pediatric to geriatric, minimally-invasive to major reconstructive, basic to clinical, and namely any fields in orthopaedic surgery. Our trauma attending staffs take emergency calls and serve 24-hour a day on the site of ER. Our sports team works with our national Olympic players as the team physician in soccer, baseball, and other sports. The divisions of spine and joint reconstruction are the most outstanding groups that not only serve more than 10% of the total health care beneficiaries in the country but also provide international health services to patients beyond borders. In addition to the clinical service, we publish around 90 scientific papers in peer-review journals in a year and are funded with 40 research projects in a year. Based on the outstanding performances, we are ranked as the top training center in resident training program and fellowship. The enrollment for the training is very competitive and the doctors who finish the training get excellent marks and job opportunity.
In 2013, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery accommodates 223 beds, 13 operation rooms, 99 nursing staffs, 32 operating room nursing staffs, 37 administrative personnel, and clinical labs such as ultrasound examination, shockwave therapy, gait analysis, and foot pressure analysis. We have 7 professors, 7 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, and 18 attending physicians. Among them, 3 have doctoral degree of philosophy and 5 are candidates in the Ph.D. program. I am very proud and honored to be the leader of the prestige group.
