PICO Laser

Q-switch Nd:YAG laser has two wavelengths, such as 1064nm and 532nm. Better penetration is obtained with longer wavelength.

Indications

This laser, like ruby laser, is used to treat tattoo, nevus and melanin-containing pigmented lesions.

  1. Tattoo removal, nevus
  2. Melanin-containing pigmentary lesions, such as Nevus of Ota, Nevus zygomaticus and freckles.
  3. Becker’s nevus, giant hairy nevus, café au lait mecules of neurofibromatosis.

Post-IPL wound care instruction

  1. After laser therapy, washing your face with cool boiled water twice a day is permitted during the first 3 days. Thereafter, tap-water is may be used. After cleansing, dry you face with a facial towel gently. Please do not use extra force to rub the wounds. Keep wounds dry as possible as you can.
  2. Apply topical medications gently and evenly on the wounds with sterilized cotton swab or clean fingers. Crusts may develop on the next day after treatment. Please do not scrape the wounds with fingers in order to prevent scar formation. It wound be better to let crusts fall off spontaneously for best wound healing. Topical mediations are no longer required after the crusts have completely fallen off.
  3. The crusts on face will fall off within 5-7 days. Please do not use heavy makeup before the crusts have fallen off to avoid wound infection. If the skin feels dry, moisturizers may be used.
  4. The newly formed skin is pinkish in color, and is more sensitive to sunlight. Dark-colored umbrella is suggested for outdoor activities, and topical sun screen (at least SPF 15) is advised half an hour before going outdoor, even during winter times. Sun protection is extremely important, because UV ray will cause skin hyper-pigmentation, which is devastating to the treatment efficacy. You should also wear a broad-rimmed hat or use dark-colored umbrellas during outdoor activities.
  5. Generally, the newly formed skin shows pink color after laser therapy. Three to four weeks later, skin color will return to normal. Slight brownish discoloration may develop in some patient after three to four weeks, which does not indicate treatment failure but transient post-treatment hyperpigmention instead. Optimal effects will be observed after two to six months.
  6. Your doctor will prescribe “color cream” (skin lightening agent) according to the individual condition. It helps reduce post-treatment hyperpigmentation if used continuously and patiently.
  7. New melanin-containing pigmentary lesions may develop easily after sun exposure in some people. Therefore, daily sun protection remains essential all year long.
