Chang-Gung Children's Hospital is a nationally recognized pediatric tertiary referral center, serving northern Taiwan.

The division of  pediatric critical care and emergency medicine, established in July, 1998,

The  PICU offers a full range of medical and surgical tertiary care treatment modalities including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation( ECMO) in its 29-bed fully computerized unit.

Our  PICU has been appraised   excellent in annual accreditation , and  is  one of   the leading pediatric intensive care units in Taiwan

Respirators, EKG monitors, oxymetry pressure monitor, intravenous catheters  and the technology of today's intensive care can bewilder a child and family. For this reason, to address virtually every patient and family concern, the medical staff of Chang-Gung Children's PICU is supported by an family-centered team that includes social workers.

We serve sick children from age of 1month to 17yrs with the following situations:

1.      Profound shock of various causes

2.      Severe respiratory failure in need of ventilator support

3.      Severe CNS infection and various neurointensive care including bed-side 24 hr EEG

4.      Acute renal failure with renal replacement therapy including CRRT

5.      Acute severe hepatic failure with plasmaphresis

6.      Acute severe hematologic complication

7.      Hand , foot and mouth  disease  with cardiopulmonary compromise

8.      Post-operation or Post-procedure monitor and management after major operation or invasive procedure

9   24hrs-standty ECMO team

 

Our features:

1.  24 hours a day with experienced and multiprofessional physician available

2.  Specialized and well-integrated paramedics including respiratory therapeutists, dieticians, pharmacists, and social workers

3.   Available innovative respiratory therapy including HFOV, iNO and Ventrak pulmonary function monitoring

4.   Specialized intracranial monitoring including Jugular bulb catheter placement and fiberoptic ICP monitor

5.   Specialized cardiopulmonary monitoring including placement of PiCCO, Hemosonic, and Swan-Ganz pulmonary artery catheterization

6.   24 hours stand-by transferable  team for the critical ill

7.      Combination therapy with Contemporary medicine and Chinese medicine ( herbs and/or acupunctures) in some selective patients

 

Our Goals:

1.      To develop a transferal team and establish a medical network for critical ill children in Taiwan

2.      To perform research concerning critical care management in children and monitoring

3.      To train and teach capable and motivated individuals in pediatric critical care of medicine
